Love, Time, and Death
“Collateral Beauty” refers to the “good things that come as a result of bad things.” This concept is as old as the human race and has been used to describe the positive moments that arise in human life. It is a platitude that says “the stars shine brightest at night,” but it rarely holds when a person is facing cancer, a crappy stepdad, or an adolescent dislike. Similarly, some pleasures can only be discovered in the darkness.
Collateral beauty is the beauty shared among two people in a relationship. The beauty of the shared relationship does not diminish with the passing of the people involved; it becomes collateral beauty for those who remained in the relationship. This film is a great example of this phenomenon.
Will Smith
In Will Smith’s latest film, “Collateral Beauty,” he plays a successful advertising executive who experiences a great tragedy and finds himself withdrawing from life. He begins writing letters to Love, Time, and Death to find answers to his life’s questions. In the process, he comes to understand how these constants in life interlock with each other.
Despite the film’s unremarkable cast, Collateral Beauty has its fair share of flaws. Its sappiness is as cliched as an ugly Christmas sweater, and its homages to classic films like It’s A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol are aptly apparent. However, if you don’t mind a bit of cliched, derivative storytelling, Collateral Beauty may be the perfect holiday film
Edward Norton
In the 2016 fantasy drama Collateral Beauty, Edward Norton stars as a man who experiences a profound personal loss. After his loss, his life begins to unravel. As he tries to cope with his grief, he writes letters to Death, Time, and Love. As he receives unexpected personal responses, he begins to realize how these three entities are interrelated.
Keira Knightley
Keira Knightley is currently negotiating to join the cast of David Frankel’s upcoming film, Collateral Beauty. This unconventional drama will also star Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Ed Norton, Michael Pena, Naomie Harris, and Edward Norton. The film will follow the life of an advertising exec who suffers a massive personal tragedy. To help him overcome the tragedy, Will Smith and his colleagues hatch a plot. It involves casting living embodiments of the concepts of Love, Time, and Death.
The plot of Collateral Beauty is incredibly complicated. The film begins with a long, philosophical monologue from Will Smith’s ad executive. In the film, he talks about the importance of love and how much it can change the course of your life. But the film does not stop there. It also wastes Will Smith’s performance
Naomie Harris
Naomie Harris has been nominated for several awards for her performances in Moonlight and Collateral Beauty. While her character in Moonlight was a crack addict, her character in Collateral Beauty is a grieving mother who loses her 6-year-old daughter. Both are well-made films with impressive casts.
